Sea of Bees

Somewhat of a misnomer, Sea of Bees is the musical moniker for Sacramento-based folk-artist, Julie Ann Bee (Julie Baenziger).  In fact, only one of the other seven musicians recruited for the project has a last name that starts with the same letter.  Although there was an earlier EP from 2009, Sea of Bees released their debut LP, Songs for the Ravens, in mid-2010 to positive reviews.  Unfortunately, extensive press coverage (The Guardian, NPR, LA Weekly) has done little to muster up more widespread support.  Not to be missed though, her songs are austere, ethereal, and downright creepy at times due to her frequent use of the relative minor.  Reverberating harmonies also help complete that walking-through-a-misty-forest vibe.  The entire debut album is worth a listen, if not several.  Enjoy!

Albums: Songs for the Ravens (2010)

Tracks:  Gnomes, Wizbot, The Gold, Willis
